LiberPress Association Award 2016

olVIDAdos

olVIDAdos is an NGO that is engaged in a long, continuous programme to help disadvantaged people through various national and international initiatives. Since March, it has been running a refugee aid project. First in Quios, then in Ioannina and Souda, Tabakika and Port Camp, and in the camps nearby, organising them and bringing them food and essential products. It has hygiene and infant feeding projects (almost 40% of the refugees are children), and provides extra help for nursing mothers and pregnant women. olVIDAdos has already distributed over forty-four tonnes of food in refugee camps.

It maintains a permanent team of workers in Greece and runs the project “Help families fleeing from war”. olVIDAdos has acted in other emergency situations, such as that following the earthquake in Haiti. In Spain, it also combats child malnutrition, especially in the Community of Madrid, with grants that ensure that children of pre-school and primary education age (3 to 12 years old) receive a balanced meal each day, when their families do not have financial resources to cover the monthly cost of school meals. olVIDAdos helps two thousand families and distributes forty-nine tonnes of food every month. During the 2014-2015 academic year, it was able to fund 517 grants at seventeen schools. In 2015 olVIDAdos received the Madrid Food Bank Foundation Award “for its work on behalf of people in need”.

LiberPress Association Award 2016

olVIDAdos received the 2016 LiberPress Associations Award for its work helping the most needy in all areas and especially for the work it is carrying out, in extreme conditions, in the refugee camps of Greece and Turkey; its work not only helps to save lives, but also to alleviate want and make refugees’ lives as dignified as possible in their dramatic and lamentable situation.
