Ricard Belis

Ricard Belis i Garcia (born Barcelona, 1964) is a Catalan journalist and author and the director of numerous documentaries. He took a degree in Communication Studies at the Autonomous University of Barcelona and since 1987 he has been a television producer. Between 1991 and 2008, he worked on the programme 30 Minuts for Televisió de Catalunya, where he produced such reports as Solidaris fora de la llei, Els nens dels camions (UNICEF 2002 Award), Murs, Les fosses del silenci (Best Director Award at the Barcelona Cinema and Human Rights Festival), El comboi dels 927, El fotògraf de l’èxode (Mans Unides Award 2007) and Ramon Perera, l’home dels refugis (Bronze Medal at the New York Festival and First Prize at the Memorimage Festival). He has also worked with Dolors Genovés, with whom he made the documentaries Operació Nikolai (1992) and Cambó (1996).

In 2002, Armengou and Belis made the documentary Els nens perduts del franquisme, for which they were awarded the National Journalism Prize that year by the Generalitat of Catalonia for their important contribution to historical research journalism, which represents progress in that journalistic genre on television. They were also awarded the Dignitat 2008 prizes for the whole of their task in recovering historical memory.
