Fer

Josep Antoni Fernández, Fer, was born in a small town in León, but at a very early age he came to live in Catalonia, specifically in Mollet del Vallès. He studied history and anthropology at the University of Barcelona and became a secondary school history teacher.

As an artist he began with the magazine Mata Ratos, before moving on to the newspaper La Prensa, the magazine El Papus and other publications, such as Barrabás and Don Balón. He began to contribute to El Jueves thanks to the cartoonist Gin. In 1987, he began at L’Avui, replacing one of his teachers, Cesc (LiberPress 2001 drawing). He was awarded the Ivà Prize in 1966, the Gat Perich International Humour Prize in 2005, and the University of Alcalá de Henares appointed him Professor of Humour.

An impenitent, fun, intelligent chatterbox, generous with others and committed to all the lost causes, he is a friend of all non-conformists, rebels and idealists who work for and practice human rights and freedoms.
