Charb (Stéphane Charbonnier)

Stéphane Charbonnier, also known by the pseudonym Charb (born Conflans-Sainte-Honorine, August 21, 1967 – died Paris, January 7, 2015), was a French journalist and cartoonist. Charb worked for numerous publications, including Charlie Hebdo, of which he was editor from May 2009, L’Écho des Savanes, Télérama, Fluide Glacial and l’Humanité. His drawings are characterised by a corrosive and irreverent style. Maurice and Patapon, the anti-capitalist dog and cat, and the cop Marcel Keuf are good examples of his work.

Some of his most prominent publications are “Je suis très tolerant” (1996), “Attention ça tache” (2004), “Maurice et Patapon” (2005), “J’aime pas les fumeurs” (2007), “Dico Sarko” (2008), “Marcel Keuf, le flic” (2011) and “La salle des profs” (2012).
