Ten years ago, in a small town in Teruel, famous for its Easter Week traditions and because it is the place where Luis Buñuel was born, a centre dedicated to the great film director was created to extend and disseminate knowledge of his life, using new technologies, multimedia resources, content selection and careful design.
Located in a palace in the centre of the town, a short distance away from all the roads, it has managed in this period to become, thanks to its multifaceted and dynamic director, Javier Espada, an international benchmark, where, in addition to storing and publishing the best work by the great director, events including talks, exhibitions, round tables, film sessions, seminars and workshops are constantly organised, with the participation of internationally renowned artists.
The Buñuel Centre in Calanda received the LiberPress Cinema Award for its magnificent record and international projection in just ten years, for the splendid work it has done to raise awareness of the figure of a brilliant and unique film-maker, Luis Buñuel, and for all its work on behalf of original, intelligent, cultured and committed cinema, showing that, even though it is far from the great centres of culture, with imagination, work and passion, it is possible to create a first-rate film and culture centre, where the visitor can also participate.
