The Perich Sense Concessions Association created the prestigious International Gat Perich Humour Award, presented since 1996 in memory of Jaume Perich, to recognise the important social work of professional humourists. Created a year after the death of Perich, on the initiative of the cartoonist Fer and the family of Jaume Perich, especially his widow, Anna, and his daughter Raquel, the award was originally organised in Llançà, with the support of the Confraria Barroca Sant Honorat and El Jueves magazine. Currently the award is organised by the Perich Sense Concessions Association. Originally, the winners and the guests convened at the Estació de França in Barcelona and travelled to Llançà on a special train, called Tren Perich.
Later the award changed location and went to Premià de Dalt, the town in which Perich lived. Since then the guests have travelled on a Golondrina pleasure boat from the port of Barcelona to El Masnou. Last year the trip by sea finished at the Forum of Cultures in Barcelona. A series of special, honorary Gat Perich awards have been presented to reward the careers of veteran humourists who have expressed their ideas through their work and have become a benchmark for new generations.
The Perich Sense Concessions Association received the 2009 LiberPress Association Award for its work relating to, studying and rewarding wit, ingenuity, satire, artists, humour, laughter, cartoonists, jokes, comics, imagination, mordacity and entertainment, a wise, humanitarian task undertaken with intelligence, rigour and a critical spirit. Especially in Catalonia. It is difficult to do anything serious (in the sense of unhappy or bitter) and they have created a fantastic prize which is internationally recognised. The Association is slightly older than LiberPress, as if it were our elder brother or sister. We not only love them, but we admire them and envy them affectionately.
